Thames Water Pipeline – First Posted 2024-03-19 (Last Updated 2024-09-11)

You should have received an email about the works Thames Water are undertaking to install a new fresh water pipeline between Pewley Hill and Shere. A copy of which can be found below.

To clarify the risk:
For customers in Tyting near Guildford & Guildford Lane – There are multiple points where the Thames Water work crosses or runs adjacent to the B4SH network where damage may affect service until repaired.
For all other customers – There is a single point near the Silent Pool where Thames Water damage may affect service until repaired.

More details on the progress of their works will be posted here once known. As of 2024-09-11 Thames Water have been diligent in locating our network underneath their works compounds at Tyting and A25 at Shere so are aware where network runs. They have also crossed, without incident, our cable in multiple locations near Tyting Farm and closer to Albury.

Dear B4SH customer

As you may be aware Thames Water are to install an essential trunk main between the reservoir on Pewley Down and Netley Mill near Shere. The route of the pipeline, which is underground, is shown in the link in this email and crosses our core fibre optic cable several times.

This work is due to start in earnest in the next few weeks and will continue for up to 2 years – clearance of vegetation has already commenced.

Since being made aware of this work, we have been working with their contractors, Galliford Try, exchanging maps, identifying interfaces and marking out our network. We will continue to liaise with them on a regular basis.

Neither Galliford Try nor B4SH wish for any disruption to our network and Galliford Try will do everything they can to avoid any disruption. However, there is a degree of risk to the network until the pipeline is completed so we have repair plans in place, should there be any damage.

In the event that Galliford Try damage our cable we have a detailed repair plan agreed with them. The main aim of which is to get the network repaired as quickly as possible and to get you back online. If there is an interruption to our service, we will keep you informed of the location of the damage and an estimated repair time via [our status page].

If you require further details regarding the Thames Water pipeline please see this link https://www.thameswater.co.uk/about-us/investing-in-our-region/improvements-in-your-area/guildford-mains-pipeline-project

We aim to minimise any disruption to our broadband service and complete any repair work as soon as possible during this time. Please be assured that the whole team will be mobilised in the event of any issue.

If you have any questions, please let us know on office@b4sh.org.uk or 01483 347437.
