Jeff, one of our wonderful volunteers, explains what he does and why he volunteers for B4SH.
What do you do?
I work in network installation getting the fibre and duct in the ground and into customer properties under the control of a very experienced team who are a pleasure to work with.
What do you enjoy about volunteering for us?
I find B4SH to be an interesting, worthwhile local opportunity to use existing skills and develop new ones.
We visit parts of the Surrey Hills which we might not otherwise see and meet new people and learn interesting history of some of the old estate properties. Everyone welcomes what we do.
I like the B4SH ethos of being ‘by the community for the community’. I think we help local people who might otherwise be feeling rather isolated engage with digital living. B4SH helps local businesses to work more efficiently and helps to create local employment opportunities.
Do you have a funny story or shareable moment when volunteering at B4SH?
Every day is different in some way working with a great team. There is the occasional challenge like the time we were building an inspection chamber in a field and were approached by some inquisitive heifers!
Do you need previous experience to work for B4SH?
B4SH welcomes a wide range of skills but what you really need is enthusiasm, they can teach you the rest.
