The Team

Anthony Townsend, Director

Having studied engineering at Cambridge, Anthony has over 45 years’ experience in financial services in the City of London. He is chairman of F & C Global Smaller Companies plc, Finsbury Growth & Income Trust plc, Gresham House plc and Miton Global Opportunities plc. He is a Deputy Lieutenant of the county of Surrey and was chairman of the Governors of Cranleigh School from 2006-2016. He is one of the founding directors of Broadband for Surrey Hills Ltd.

Walter Willcox, Director

Walter has been involved in industrial control systems for most of his career ending it running his own telemetry and tele-control consultancy writing procurement specifications and assisting in their commissioning. He retired after closing his consultancy but became increasingly involved locally with helping those in broadband difficulties. He became involved in the remarkable Broadband for the Rural North (B4RN) and became their first shareholder. He visits their area frequently so has become familiar with most aspects of that project. Walter has assisted in the formation of B4SH and is one of their founding directors.  He has designed our local network, integrating with the B4RN Internet exchange equipment in Docklands.

Graham Richardson, Director

Graham retired as a partner in Deloitte on 31st May 2017, having joined the firm from London School of Economics in 1979. He has served on both the firm’s Board and Executive for many years. He has worked across industry groups including Aerospace and Defence, Telecoms and IT and as lead partner on a wide range of capital market transactions. He is also one the founding directors of Broadband for Surrey Hills Ltd.

Jon Slater, Director

Founding Partner and Investment Committee Chairman of Fifty Renewable Energy.  Chairman of the Investment Committee and is joint Chief Executive of TradeRisks Ltd. He started his career in finance at JP Morgan in 1989 and was latterly Managing Director and Global Head of Structured Credit Trading, developing and leading the bank’s Structured Credit Trading business, through to 2011. Jon is a skilled derivatives trader with extensive professional experience in transaction structuring and risk management. He is accredited by the Financial Conduct Authority and holds a first class honours degree in mathematics from St John’s College, Cambridge.

Tim Metson, Director

Tim Metson is a chartered surveyor and farmer. The family have been farming in the Surrey Hills since the 1950’s developing their herd of pedigree herd of Hereford cattle. Other enterprises include a high end mobile airstream catering business, the development of a 5* rated holiday cottage, wedding receptions and shortly a butchery to provide quality locally produced meat on a wholesale basis. From a real estate perspective Tim advises on all sectors  ranging from rural country houses, farms and development property through to acting as lead property adviser to a leading UK commercial property regeneration specialist. Tim is a trustee of Guildford Poyle Charities, a Director of Friends of the Hurtwood and a director at Surrey Hills Enterprises CIC.

Angus Denny, Director

Angus began his career as an engineer in the offshore oil industry and has since worked in the IT industry for many years.  He has spent over 25 years with IBM, where he worked with clients across industry sectors including Defence, Banking, Oil and the Public Sector.  Latterly he has run his own consultancy, advising clients on commercial aspects of IT.  Angus holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Manchester.

Jane Butler, Consultant

Jane has had a 30-year career in the IT and telecommunications industry. Jane designed and helped deploy many public and private networks and was instrumental in many aspects of the Internet that we all use today. After shaping Cisco’s global technology strategy for many years, Jane stepped down and ran a Foundation growing Internet access in parts of Africa and Asia using wireless networks, alongside consulting with start-ups and SME’s in Silicon Valley. In London, Jane joined UCL to lead the industrial strategy for the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, ensuring research output from UCL has the greatest impact on our society. Jane has worked with UCL since the early days of the Internet ensuring UCL has always played a leading role in the deployment of the Internet in the UK and internationally. Jane is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Technology.

Sonya Graham, Company Secretary and Office Manager

Sonya spent several years at ntl (now Virgin Media) in various roles; project planning, project management launching new services to the business sector and in operations.
